Radial characterization of the electron energy distribution in a helicon source terminated by a double layer

چکیده
Electron energy probability functions EEPFs are measured across the radius 0 r 6.85 cm of a low pressure 0.3 mTorr helicon plasma source terminated by a current-free double layer. The source field of about 130 G is generated using a Helmholtz coil pair and the radio frequency rf power is maintained at 250 W. All EEPFs exhibit a distribution with a temperature Te bulk out to a break energy break and a relatively depleted distribution for higher energies with a lower temperature Te tail. Te bulk and Te tail are about 8 eV and 5 eV, respectively, for r 4 cm and increase up to about 14 eV and 9 eV near the source wall, i.e., near the rf antenna. break is found to correspond to the potential drop of the double layer for the central part of the source and to the sheath potential near the wall. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. High density mode in xenon produced by a Helicon Double Layer Thruster
A high density ‘blue’ mode has been observed when operating the Helicon Double Layer Thruster (HDLT) with xenon. Using a Langmuir probe and a retarding field energy analyser (RFEA), the plasma source and exhaust have been characterized at various radio frequency (RF) powers and operating pressures. When operating at low RF powers, the HDLT prototype is shown to be in a capacitively coupled mode...
متن کاملEEDF MEASUREMENTS AND EXCITATION PROCESSES IN THE VICINITY OF A HELIUM DISCHARGE CONSTRICTION
Axial distributions of plasma and floating potentials, electron number density and the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) have been measured in the double layer (DL) region of an He discharge constriction. Excitation processes in the constriction region are studied. Using a linearization method for the nonstationary balance equations and choosing appropriate discharge conditions, ...
متن کاملPlasma expansion from a dielectric electron cyclotron resonance source
The boundary conditions in an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) source have been modified to mimic the operating conditions where current-free double-layers (DLs) have been recently measured in rf helicon plasmas. The plasma is heated or generated by the ECR at 875 G inside a dielectric source tube, and expands into a grounded diffusion chamber (terminated by a glass plate) by a rapidly decrea...

In this study, a new graphene ceramic composite (GCC) was prepared based on the reduced grapheneoxide (rGO) doped in sol-gel derived silica. The GCC was prepared by dispersing rGO nanosheets intothe sol-gel precursors containing methyl triethoxysilane, methanol and hydrochloric acid solution.During an acid catalyzed hydrolyze reaction and gelation proc...

Electro-magneto-thermo-elastic response of a thick double-layered cylinder made from a homogeneous interlayer and a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) outer layer is investigated. Material properties of the FGPM layer vary along radius based on the power law distribution. The vessel is subjected to an internal pressure, an induced electric potential, a uniform magnetic field and ...
